Masindi Head Teachers’ Association donates 500kgs of maize flour to district COVID-19 task force
The Masindi district Secondary School Head Teachers’ Association has donated 500 kgs of maize flour to the district COVID-19 task force.
The donation was delivered by Steven John Rugadya, the association’s Chairperson, and received by Masindi District Health Officer, Patrick Baguma, at the RDC’s office today.
Rugadya who is also the Head teacher, Kinyara secondary school, said that they found it necessary to donate to the task force in order to aid the vulnerable.
“We were encouraged by the people who were also contributing the little they had”, Rugadya explained.
“We found it necessary to donate to the Covid-19 task force to enable the vulnerable people like the orphans and the elderly get what to eat during this lockdown,” said Rugadya.
The Association’s secretary Jane Babiha noted that they used their platform as secondary school Head teachers to raise the money.
“We raised the Shs 1.1m from member’s personal savings and another fund was got from the Associations general account,” Babiha said.
She called on more organisations to give generously to the national and district efforts to mitigate the social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
” I encourage other associations to also come out and do the same [donate] such that our vulnerable people can be helped,” she appealed.
Receiving the donation, Patrick Baguma, the District Health Officer (DHO) Masindi thanked the head teachers for the contribution, and revealed that, as a task force, they are overwhelmed by the people who are storming their offices demanding for food.
“I call upon other development partners in the district to come up and deliver to the task force such that the vulnerable can be helped in this lockdown which was brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic,” Baguma said.
Masindi district is grappling with the high number of the people demanding for food from the task force. On Thursday last week Masindi bodabodas under their umbrella organisation Masindi Motorcycle Operators Association (MAMOA) stormed the RDC’s office demanding for an explanation as to why they had missed out on the food donations.
Masindi district Secondary Head Teachers Association comprises 35 secondary schools currently.
